You know you are in Sydney when…
Sydney is a scintillating city with all the ingredients of a dolce vita life! When I say that it is sophistication personified, I don’t mean something intimidating or beyond reach. I simply mean that it has got the spunk and spice of a ‘yuppie’ city.

Since it’s relatively new, it is full of vigour to woo a traveller and possibly divulge a few reverential traits that would raise some applause from the ‘stiff upper-lip’ kind of vagabond too. Sydney, of course, is still very young when you talk about London, Paris, Rome or New York. But, it bewitches and how!

So, here’s Sydney from my eyes –

Golden sunshine romances the breezes
Fortunately, I visited Sydney during autumn, which was a bargain! Silky breezes blow gently in your hair to spoil you with heavenly hair massages. I can’t say much about the other seasons, but whatever little I could comprehend, I would say that Sydney’s weather is mostly bright and sparkling.
It keeps you upbeat most of the time persuading you for outdoor activities, which could be something as simple as wandering, people watching or window shopping.
Coffee seems to be a staple drink
I was pretty amazed by the coffee consumption of Sydneysiders – particularly by the younger crowd. The older people go for red wine or beer (well, that’s what I observed). I, mostly, found the inhabitants chilling out at roadside cafes & bars. So yes, it’s quite a cafe driven city.
One peculiar thing about the coffee is that it’s not served very hot. I remember sitting at Gloria Jean’s at Flemington (a suburb in Sydney) waiting for my cappuccino and I am served a lukewarm coffee. I ask the lady to warm it up a little bit more. She takes away my cup with a smile and brings the same lukewarm cappuccino back! Anyway, the coffee still tastes great. It still keeps you chirpy. So I didn’t quite mind it.
The atmosphere is very urbane
The moment I hear ‘Sydney’, an image of skyscrapers, harbour and bustling townies comes to mind. People rush to work in the morning like anywhere else in the world, but even the rush, chaos and routine of everyday life do not deter a Sydneysider from taking a moment aside and living it.
The locals walk the street with oodles of oomph and energy even after work. A suited-booted gentleman would be seen reading a newspaper and chilling out. The idea is to totally slip into the cosmopolitan environment, yet relax and enjoy. No wonder Sydney is known to be one of the most liveable cities in the world.
Walking is a pleasure
You can walk miles and miles without any fatigue – the streets are so well planned. I like the signal beep – it haunted me for quite a while even after I left Sydney. Yeah, I know it could be something very ordinary for many people – not something to mention, but I really liked the idea of trouble-free walking on the road.
Although Sydney is the most populous city in Australia, it is still very easy to live in. People seem to be relaxed and easy-going.
Lots of free stuff to do
Sydney has quite a few things to enjoy without spending a penny! Since it’s a harbour city, it has a unique beauty to boast about – you can simply sit and gaze at the endless azure sea, ships and the charismatic landscape.
Be an explorer! If your feet don’t get weary too soon, get going and explore the city on your own. Walk the Harbour Bridge, marvel at the Opera House, romance under the twilight sky – do whatever you feel like!
The idea is to live a genuine ‘Sydney’ experience.

Have you been to Sydney? What was your experience like?
