Mehrangarh Fort – A Photo Essay (Part One)

Mehrangarh Fort – A Photo Essay (Part One)

Mehrangarh Fort is Jodhpur’s landmark. Let me make you aware that it’s not just a fort. It’s a domineering impression, an iconic footprint of the times gone by. Thus, the experience of visiting it is something more than the usual feeling of visiting a monument. The first thing that will amaze you about the fort is its massiveness. Yes, it’s huge!

I started my walk inside the fort at around five in the evening, when the sun was still very bright. It took me a while to reach the very end of it, the top of it from where you can have an overview of the city of Jodhpur. There are quite a few things to glance at – a distant view of Umaid Bhawan Palace, Clock Tower and the Blue City.

I am so excited to take you on a pictorial tour of the most impressive fort I have ever seen! Here it is –
The fort is built 400 feet (122 m) above the city of Jodhpur.
The third movie of The Dark Knight trilogy, The Dark Knight Rises, was partially shot around the Mehrangarh fort.
The museum in the Mehrangarh fort is one of the most well-stocked museums in Rajasthan.
There are seven gates, which include Jayapol (meaning ‘victory’), built by Maharaja Man Singh.
Fattehpol (also meaning ‘victory’) gate was built by Maharaja Ajit Singh to mark the defeat of the Mughals.
