Savour the best of Udaipur from Amet Haveli

Savour the best of Udaipur from Amet Haveli

Udaipur is poetry. It isn’t just a city. So, when I decided to revisit it with my mom, I wanted to make sure that I savor its royal charms to the fullest. I believe the best way to enjoy a place without much effort is by staying at a place with the best view, which is why I chose to stay at Hotel Amet Haveli. It’s a heritage property built in the 17th century, and it has got some of the best views of the Lake Pichola. I was obviously enamored about the idea of staying there.

My first visit to Udaipur was in 2011, which was also my first solo trip. That is why the city of lakes is so special to me. So yes, this trip was all about reliving the memories and savoring the heritage.

There was no rush, no hurry, and no checklist. I think Udaipur urges you to slow down and not do much.

The story behind my stay at Amet Haveli

Let me share with you why I stayed at Amet Haveli – It was a beautiful dinner evening at the restaurant Ambrai when I visited Udaipur 8 years ago, which made me curious about the experience of staying at the hotel. I had read about the restaurant somewhere, and even a local auto guy suggested that I should go there in the evening. It was a good choice for sure. Ambrai is undoubtedly one of the best places to have a reveling evening in Udaipur. So, on my second visit, I was quite keen on experiencing the stay as well.

My room, my space

The property has changed quite a bit in the last 8 years. They have made it bigger and grander. There’s a lot of construction going on everywhere in the old city of Udaipur, which is a concern. But, fortunately Amet Haveli has preserved its heritage and authenticity. I was just too impressed with the royal and the elegant feel of my room, which came from the traditional furniture and the tasteful décor. The corridors, the courtyard, the swimming pool and even the bathroom had impressions of the Rajput era. But, my favorite space was the window with a sofa, which had the view of the lake and the City Palace. You need such spaces once in a while to refresh yourself, isn’t it?

The view from my room

It was so lovely to wake up to the view of Lake Pichola every morning! Sipping tea in the verandah of my room under the overcast sky was such a mesmerizing experience. Since it was drizzling, the mood got even more evocative. The aura of the ghats, the sprawling view of the City Palace and the Taj Lake Palace was so awe-inspiring. It felt like a dream.

So, besides the obvious charms, such as the scintillating views from Ambrai, the restaurant and the regal splendor of the hotel, Amet Haveli is also an excellent stay in Udaipur for other reasons –

All the main attractions of Udaipur are on walkable distance

You don’t have to hire a taxi/auto to visit the main attractions of Udaipur, such as Ambrai Ghat, Hanuman Ghat, Bagore Ki Haveli and even the City Palace is quite close. I enjoyed walking through the same lane and market every day. There’s so much to see along the way as well.

You can also check out the famous local markets of Udaipur

There are famous local markets of Udaipur that you should check out, such as Hathi Pol Bazaar, Bada Bazaar and various souvenir shops in the lanes of Chand Pole.

I recommend staying at Amet Haveli for a true-blue Rajputana experience peppered with some spectacular views.
