My 8 ‘New Year’ Resolutions For 2015 – Travel And Beyond

It’s time to make some resolutions again! Last year, I made 5 Travel Resolutions, most of which I did fulfil. This year I would like to make more new changes in my life as a traveller and as a person. Although I believe each new day is a chance to begin afresh, ‘New Year’ gives a certain kick to do better in life. I’m really looking forward to making my 2015 a great year.

So, here I am with my resolutions for 2015 -

No staying up late at night

Ever since I started blogging, I developed this bad habit of staying up late at night and sleeping in till 11 in the morning. My entire routine has gone haywire because of my abnormal sleeping pattern. But now I’m trying to give up this weird lifestyle and become sane.

Jogging and practising yoga

I hate going to the gym, but I love food. I believe physical exercise should not be a pain. It should be fun to exercise. So, I have found my two favourite ways to stay fit – gentle running and yoga.

Spend more time outdoors

Since I work from home, I barely get out of my house. I need to spend more time outdoors around my house and in my city.

Practice photography

I take my camera out only when I am travelling, which I want to change this year. I need to practice photography, learn more about my camera and get more professional eventually.

To be more disciplined with my work

Discipline is a big issue with me. Although I do work very hard, I can be lazy too. I need to learn to manage my time and work more smartly. Procrastination is something that I want to expel from my life in 2015.

To be more socially active both online and offline

Being a travel blogger, I need to be socially active online, but mingling with people offline is also important. I met many people on my recent trips, which made my journey as a traveller and a blogger more meaningful. I will focus on doing so more and more in the days to come.

Get into the habit of avid reading

Reading is something that doesn’t come naturally to me. I have to try really hard to read something and grasp it. But I understand that it’s important to read different stuff to be able to find inspiration and develop better writing skills.

Travel more frequently

2015 is certainly going to be a more ‘travel-oriented’ year for me. My finances have kept me from travelling as much as I would like to, but I’m determined to make it work this year. I have created a separate savings account just for my travel funds.

Okay now I would like to hear from you! What are your NEW YEAR resolutions?

  5. I feel like I could take each and every one of your resolutions and put them on my own list. I'm am the worst procrastinator and that is really something I'd like to work on this year. Practicing my photography is also something I'd like to incorporate into my daily life. Actually if you have any recommendations for resources you use to improve your photography pass them my way ;) These all seem like very achievable goals so good luck. I'll be trying to do the same things!!

    1. Thanks Justine! :-) Yes, I have deliberately made achievable resolutions. Shame on me if I don't fulfill these! As far as photography is concerned, there is a lot of stuff available on the net. Besides, practicing is the best way to learn!

  7. I have to admit we have a few similar resolutions, Renuka. I wish I could add "No staying up late at night" to my list, but unfortunately night is the only free time I have. They have kids and pets are the main cause of sleep deprivation, and I have both :) Anyway, a batter time managements would do me lots of good. Happy New Year to you and may all your wishes come true!

  9. Great resolutions, many of which I also should be aspiring to! I know what you mean about being lazy sometimes - I go from being super productive to being super lethargic, so it's something I also want to work on this year. Happy New Year!

  11. Wonderful resolutions! I was so inspired by this list, especially #1. I've started doing that too! Ahhh! I find it's such a hard balance between blogging/staying connected online and just being present/going to bed on time:) Best of luck in 2015! Looking forward to continuing to follow your journey.

  14. After reading your article I realized how I am abusing my body by sleeping late night, sitting in front of the computers for long time without out doing any kind of workouts. This post just reminded me that even I should keep some resolution for 2015. Thanks and Happy New Year.

  16. My resolution for 2015 is: *I will not make any resolutions.*

Haha - no, seriously, you have some good resolutions. I encourage you to keep trying; that's a lot of lifestyle change to accomplish all at once!

I really resonate with that one about sleep hours. I have always been a night owl, which isn't good for the body clock. And like you, sleeping late is a result. It's funny how we both have realized that it's a bad habit, isn't it?

Do you mind if I share my experience, in case it's helpful? I've been working on it for a few months now. My eventual goal is to get up with the sun, but in the meantime I'm now forcing myself to get up earlier. My rule is: get out of bed as soon as I become semi-conscious from the light or a desperate need for the rest room...with a 9 am alarm as a backup. It's becoming a cycle: Getting up ever earlier results in tiring ever earlier in the evening.

My next goal is going to be to NOT read in bed. I've begun to read well-written literature in order to improve my own writing and it's so good I have a hard time putting the book down so I can go to sleep!

    1. Wow! That is really inspiring, Linda. :-) Thanks for sharing your experience about getting up with the sun. I understand what you are saying. It's when you focus on something, you end up doing better than you expect! As far as reading is concerned, it's hard for me, but I'll try. ;-)

  21. Happy new year to you Renuka! The new years resolutions sound great - although I couldn't do the sleeping early thing - I'm enjoying my quarter life crisis too much - dinners and parties and late night bike rides!! Definitely agree about not getting stuck typing all night though!

    1. Haha! :-) Yeah! It's good to enjoy one's youth, but staying awake till late night shows on your health eventually. I'm trying best to get rid of staying up late at night and incorporate a routine of exercise in my life. Thanks so much for your wishes. Happy new year to you as well!
