8 Things Good Travelers DON’T Do
Travel is a kind of investment that secures a richer life. We sow the seed of fatigue, uncomfortable bus rides, homesickness and uninvited adventures to reap the fruit of meaningful experiences, wisdom and a sense of fulfilment. Thus, it’s essential to enjoy travel to the fullest.
There are times when we end up doing something that ruins the joy of travel. I guess it has happened to all of us at some point in our lives. So, I hope you can relate to what I’m going to talk about today.
1. Travel with someone you don’t gel with
Let’s face it, you can’t get along with everybody, so it’s absolutely ridiculous to travel with someone who has different interests than yours. Travel is about freedom and unprecedented joy. It’s not about fulfilling a social obligation or ‘trying-to-make-things-work’ kind of stuff. If someone enjoys the smoke and the noise at a discotheque, while you like deeper cultural experiences with the locals of a place, the two of you should part ways!

2. Travel without planning and agreement with your companions
You can travel without planning while you are solo. You can make mistakes and still get away with it, because there is nobody to blame you for anything. But, when you are travelling with your spouse, pals, siblings or parents, always plan your trip properly, discuss every little aspect of your proposed trip and take each other’s consent before making any decision. If something goes askew on the trip, it is going to ignite unnecessary tiff and that’s the most unwelcoming thing on a holiday.

3. Travel with a backlog of work
Never travel when you have something pending at work. Make sure to finish every important task or assignment before you leave for your trip. You don’t want to get nagging calls from your boss while you are gazing at the mountains or strolling along a lake. Besides, if your work is done, you will have a relaxed mind and that will enhance the joy of travel.
4. Carry work along on your trip
Well, I also work while travelling, but that’s because I have turned my passion (for travel) into work. So, it isn’t actually ‘work’ for me. But, those of you who have to go to an office, slog for nine hours and then commute long distances during the high-trafficked hours should leave work behind and totally disconnect from your office.
5. Travel with preconceived notions
You will be sorely disappointed if you travel with a rigid mindset, because travel is unpredictable. It is not always a bed of roses. Thus, it’s important to be open-minded and willing to face misadventures as well. You have to go by the theory that an experience, whether good or bad, is still an experience and it’s valuable.
6. Travel with anxious thoughts
Don’t let any anxious thought disturb you while you are travelling. Anxiety will keep you from fully immersing into a place. Although I’m always carefree on my travels, I worried quite a bit about my expenses on my last trip. My anxiety did diminish the spark of exploring a new place. Nevertheless, I learnt a very important lesson that I should plan my expenses better when I travel.
7. Travel with an aim
It is far more fun to travel aimlessly. Yes, it is good to lap up the spontaneous experiences. Don’t set any targets that you might not be able to meet and feel bad about later. Be flexible with your travel goals and take every hurdle in your stride. If something doesn’t work out for you, opt for something new.
8. Travel without a camera
This one is a bit funny or maybe an obvious one, but I wanted to mention it because I have seen many people clicking important photos with their phone. Of course, if you have a good phone with high picture quality feature, you can use it for taking photos. But, it is better to store memories in high-quality resolution. So, take along a good digital camera with an extra memory card as a backup, in case the one you are using gets corrupted.
Do you have anything else to add, or have you done anything from the list?
