Why I’m intrigued about Berlin, Germany

I’m kind of hooked on to Berlin after seeing a YouTube video that showcases how the city thrills a visitor. There’s so much to explore. To be honest, Berlin has never been on my European wish-list. I somehow think that the city is not charming enough. But, I guess I’m wrong… because it has got all the ingredients of an intoxicating city – cafés, quirky walls, art, culture, fests and absolutely amazing outdoors. So yes, I’m curious for Berlin.

Stroll, shop, eat and drink at Kurfürstendamm

I’m more of a street wanderer. I like strolling along beautiful shops and buildings. Thus, Kurfürstendamm would be my kind of a place in Berlin. It’s one of the most eminent streets in the world. You can shop, eat, drink and just linger around for no reason at Kurfürstendamm.

The street is as old as the 16th century, which makes it super charming. It was originally built as a bridle path for the Electors into the Grunewald, but later in 1886, turned into Kurfürstendamm – a broad boulevard with theatres, shops and cafés. I can imagine myself sitting in a café with nothing on my mind and just savoring the atmosphere.

Admire the heritage at Museum Island

Although I’m never keen on visiting museums, I’m curious about the Museum Island on Spree Island in Berlin. The fact that the entire complex is listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO makes me want to visit it. Besides, it’s a distinct collection of five museums – a cultural and architectural attraction of great significance. So, it would be interesting to visit it and find out what’s so exceptional about it. Another UNESCO site that I loved was Alberobello in Southern Italy.

Take in the charm of Gendarmenmarkt

If you are in a European city, soaking in the aura of a beautiful square is a foregone conclusion. Gendarmenmarkt is Berlin’s prettiest square, which has three striking buildings – the German and the French Cathedral and Schinkel’s Konzerthaus. I’m sure it’s an experience to marvel at the grandeur of such buildings, which transport you back in time.

Get into the festive spirit with Christmas markets

Since Berlin is a city of events and festivals, I’d like to experience its very famous Christmas markets. I’ve heard that the Christmas market around Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church at Breitscheidplatz astonishes its visitors with over 100 exquisitely adorned market stands and Christmas booths along with 70 fairground rides. Another Christmas market that I’d like to visit is Schlossplatz, which is in front of the Baroque palace and is exceptionally charming.

Besides all the good stuff that is sold at the stands, there are musicians and artists on the stage in front of the palace to entertain the visitors. So, the whole experience of visiting these Christmas markets is so much more than just shopping.

Surrender to the allure of live events

There’s always something happening in Berlin. I’d be interested in attending Berlin’s live events, exhibitions, shows and concerts. It would be a perfect way to revel in its true bohemian spirit. Since I’m a music lover, I’d love to explore the music scene at Berlin’s various theatres, such as the CHAMÄLEON Theater in Berlin-Mitte, the Wintergarten Varieté, and the Friedrichstadt-Palast.

Paddle your way through Berlin

I love riding a bicycle, and Berlin seems to be ideal for paddling your way through the quirky corners of the city. I’d love to explore Berlin’s most iconic sights in the city’s centre, the Berlin Wall and hip districts. The joy of discovering artistic places, street art, multi-ethnic communities and culturally driven neighborhood at your own pace is unparalleled. So yes, there are a lot of opportunities to unravel offbeat attractions of Berlin when you explore on your own or take a bicycle tour of your choice.

Go on a serene river cruise

River cruises are so much fun! I don’t think I can do without exploring Berlin’s two big rivers – Spree and Havel, and also its many lakes and canals. Going on a river cruise in Berlin is a fantastic idea because it takes you through the seven Havel lakes in southwestern Berlin along with charming views of many UNESCO world heritage sites.

So, Berlin has so much to offer!
